2 Groups

April 11th, 2023

In a blanket categorization and in a self-reflection of my own life there are 2 groups of people. Finding a way to categorize people on a mass scale is difficult and even questionable in nature. However, in the 2 groups, there is a sort of simplicity, a sort of feeling where you have to choose which one you are. You are in one group or in the other. One foot in one group and the other foot in the other is not really an option here. It must be an immediate, real self-reflection of where you stand. If you feel a shudder deep within when you realize which group you place yourself into, that shows you have an inclination to want to be different. The two groups are:

Group 1: The consumers. They live their lives in idle nature consuming entertainment and passing the time. Group 1 wakes up in the morning and goes through their daily routine. They go to work and come home and relax. They come home to consume entertainment. They consume the new series of the show on Netflix, they play hours of video games, and they look for an escape from their day-to-day lives. Weekends are for relaxing and getting lost in the moment of a break from the weekday schedule.

Group 2: The curious. They live their lives in relentless pursuit of curiosity. Group 2 wakes up early or stays up late. They use their work as a means to fulfill their passions or as a means to find out how to make their passions into their work. If they are unhappy, it is simply a bridge to the next part of their lives where happiness can be found. Home from work means a chance to pursue more— a chance to pursue knowledge and hoard ideas for what is next. Weekends are time used to fully dedicate to passions, an opportunity, not an escape.

Most people reading this will probably question the idea that you can only be in one group. After all, people that pursue curiosity definitely have downtime when they choose to consume entertainment. That is the correct rationale but I am not writing for the rationale. I am writing to spark an immediate, deep-rooted reaction. Which group if you had to pick only one would you currently fall into? Which group if you had to pick only one would you choose to be in? Are they different?
