Mountains and Oceans
August 12th, 2023
The Earth we live on has many physical metaphors for the life we live. There are countless parallels in nature to what we experience in our personal lives. The sun rises and sets just like how our emotions flow from happiness to sadness. The days go by just like we age. The seasons change just like we transition through new periods of our life. Two of the most commanding and powerful physical parts of the Earth are its oceans and mountains. The ocean and mountains provide countless metaphors for how we traverse through life.
The oceans cover the majority of Earth. This majority represents our life flowing. We can do nothing to stop the time, to stop the flow of life, we are like the oceans in that we go where the current of life takes us. Oceans produce waves. These waves come in standardized rhythms, and ebb and flow, a constant in and constant out. In our own lives, we move through life in a similar cadence to the waves. Some days will be slow, easy, and tranquil. Other days will be stormy, dangerous, and difficult. But if the majority of our days revert back to the ease of a typical ocean wave, we will be better off. The ocean is all about flow and we flow through our own lives. From one stop to the next. Life is a journey, we flow with where it takes us.
The mountains are physically imposing. They are the tallest structures on Earth. They are figures that are meant to be conquered. Mountains represent the pursuits we follow in life. They represent our journey of moving from zero to the best. From nothing to something. When we go through a journey of compounding improvement we are climbing the mountains. Climbing mountains are not for the faint of heart. They take preparation, determination, and a will to continue. The mountains represent that there will be hard moments in life. They represent that these hard moments will turn into moments of great triumph if we continue on. They represent the risk that is paired with any great decision. The mountains represent our quest to live our lives the way they are meant to be lived.
The natural world reflects what we go through in life on so many different levels. There is inspiration and parallels for the experience wherever we go. From the depths of the oceans to the shallows of the shore, we flow through life. From the valley of the mountains all the way to the peaks, we climb and level up through life. We flow and we grow. The oceans and mountains represent who we are.
