Silence
June 25th, 2023
Silence is a disappearing asset. In any suburban area or city, the bustling sounds of daily commutes never seem to stop. Car horns, car engines, public transportation, and the planes overhead, are all unnatural noises that come into our ear canals. The chimes and vibrations of our devices and the television on in the background are all just more noise seeping into our minds. Seeking out silence and time away from these unnatural noises has never been harder. The purpose of silence is to be alone with all of the individual thoughts we have. Silence enables our abstract thinking ability to run free.
With silence, we are able to focus on ourselves. We are able to be fully present in the moment and focus on the now. Like meditation, silence is a two-way street for being with ourselves. On one way of the street, we have the ability to be incredibly loud in the silence. We are able to let our stream of consciousness flow freely and bounce from idea to idea with no consequence. We can see truths and realizations happen in real time as we internally process events that have been on our minds. Silence helps provide clarity for what we are seeking in life. On this side of the street, our minds run rampant without the petty distractions of other noise.
The side of the street going the other way is the complete opposite. It slows the brain down to a halt. Imagine you are floating through the air, slowly, that is the peace of mind this direction offers. Silence can either take you on the internally loud path or prod you into a decelerating path to internal silence. Finding internal silence is difficult and does not present itself easily. It takes an enormous amount of self-understanding and persistence to be able to turn everything off. Having silence in external circumstances is a pathway to uncovering the silence within. Assuming silence in both areas can be found, the results are euphoric. You are extremely present while thinking of seemingly nothing. Your mind is absolutely clear and absolutely empty. You are not bouncing around ideas nor are you worried about anything. You simply are. You simply are present in the moment. You simply are silent.
Finding opportunities for complete silence can be difficult. Remove sounds of the mechanical world, the human world, and the natural world will still appear. Birds chirping, trees rustling in the wind, and a stream flowing, these sounds will suddenly appear once the man-made sounds are gone. Accept the natural sounds and then become one with your internal thoughts. Enter the two-way road of silence and begin your journey. Find your life solutions in your mind, find the clarity you seek, then attempt to change course and slip away to internal nothingness. Silence is difficult but in silence, you find your answers.
