Speed of Time
July 23rd, 2023
Someone reached out to me recently and said they could not believe it was already July. In my own mind, I could not believe it either. The year has flown by. The days go by quickly. It seems like I wake up and after a little bit, it is already 1 o’clock in the afternoon. Then I check again and it is 6 o’clock and the next thing I know am in bed ready to start over again tomorrow. Time is a weird construct where some periods of life feel extremely slow and others feel fast-forwarded. Time is the nonrenewable resource that runs our lives. Once it is used up, we move on from existence. Time travels at warp speed when viewed from the scale of the universe and can also be brought down to fractions of a second. Time is fleeting but time is also slow.
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best is right now. We are a little over 7.5 months through the year and the time to make a change is now. You do not want to be thinking back on how you wasted the opportunity to start. If there is anything you are wanting to do, make the deliberate choice to start changing. The beginning of July marked the second half of the year and offered a perfect opportunity to springboard any goals you want to work on for the rest of the year. If you blinked and realized July is almost over, this message is for you.
By being cautious and timid with how you use your time, you will be stuck in the complacent motion of time flowing by. You will not be able to take the wheel and control how your days are spent. Time will drive your life for you. You will continue to fall into the pattern of waking up, realizing it is the afternoon, then time for dinner, and then bedtime. Time is unforgiving when not paid attention to in a deliberate and dedicated way. Time slows down for no one.
You will wake up in December with one of two thoughts. You will wonder how it is already December or you will look back and see all the growth you have made in the previous couple of months. If you have the second thought, you will not need to wonder how you spent your time. You will know you used it to the best of your ability. Time stops for no one, learn to come along for the ride. You have time to start today.
