Speed vs Rushing

People want to move fast. Some of the most recognizable athletes are those that run the fastest. The exotic sports cars kids dream about owning typically have top speeds of over 200 miles per hour. Working and production use time as a metric for ability. How fast work can be done and produced matters. When you are behind schedule you need to pick up the pace at which you are operating. Much of life revolves around speed and the velocity at which output is produced. But speed is very different than rushing. Speed is needed. Rushing is detrimental to the process. Choose to utilize speed to move quickly while avoiding a tendency to rush.

Speed is a driven and motivating action. Using speed is a visible testament to achieving your goals. It is a visible indication that what you want to achieve is a priority. Using speed means you are attacking with a ferocious effort toward your goals. You do not wait until you are told to do something, you act now. You do not waste time procrastinating, you act now. You work to get the job at hand done so that you have more time when you are done.

Rushing is a careless activity. Rushing is cutting corners to try and save time. Rushing is taking shortcuts because you think they do not matter. Rushing is believing what you are doing will save you time in the long run, but actually causes you to redo your work. Rushing is chaotic and irresponsible for your pursuits. When you rush you are incentivized by a lack of discipline and respect for yourself. You prove to those around you that you do not care when you rush. When you rush you are showcasing a lack of focus, effort, and commitment to everything you are trying to achieve. Rushing may seem like the fastest option to get where you want to go but it will actually hold you back from ever coming close to your goals.

Speed is desired. Rushing is to be avoided. The world does not care how fast you accomplish something if it was accomplished in a shoddy or improper way. Speed is performing with precision and a meticulous care for the final product. Speed is how you lock in to perform exceptionally and efficiently. Rushing is how you perform when you want to say you are “done.” If you rush, you are never really “done.” The proof of the corners you cut and the shortcuts you traversed will emerge sooner or later. Move quickly, move with speed, and never fall into the grasp of having to rush.
