Teamwork

Life is not meant to be done alone. As humans, we have a desire to be around each other. Without companionship, life loses some of its sparkle. Memories and experiences are better when we have someone to share them with. Life is not about being solo, it is about finding those who you can share it with. Teamwork in life, in the projects we work on, and in the games we play help orchestrate the balance we want with our time on Earth. Without teamwork and the ability to work with others, we risk ostracizing ourselves from the magic of collaboration. We should embrace the benefits of teamwork and utilize it to find new heights, set new goals, and continue pushing onward.

Working in a team we unify around a set of goals, a vision, or the job at hand. In working together we recognize that we are stronger as a group than any individual effort could produce. In sports, we are practicing together, training together, watching film together, all in the effort to win when game day comes. With a start-up company we are collaborating together, providing different perspectives, picking apart each other’s ideas, and working relentlessly to develop and create a vision and product we believe will innovate an industry, or potentially change the world. Teamwork and collaboration promote these sorts of breakthroughs. Breakthroughs that would take much longer or would never materialize if we were operating as a solo entity.

Teamwork does not always mean agreement. However, it does mean “we” before “me.” There will be disagreements and intense internal discussions. These types of interactions put other perspectives fully on display. Other perspectives that would not be heard or realized without teamwork. Disagreements in collaborative environments are what help shape the best results. Without disagreements in teamwork, we are susceptible to instances of “groupthink” where we just go with the flow. We don’t want to always get along, what we want is to get better, together. Collaboration is not always the nicest or cleanest of circumstances but it is the best opportunity for us to refine what we are working towards. Through teamwork, we can challenge any sort of idea before we push it to the public. Through teamwork, we can change not only ourselves, but the world around us. Life is too short to operate alone all the time. Group together and create the teamwork needed to make differences possible everywhere.
