Wisdom from Others

May 5th, 2023

Since tribal times, elders have been respected and honored. They were often the leaders of their community and if they were not the leaders, they were absolutely people respected the most. The elders in the community have lived life. They have seen many sunrises and many sunsets. They have experienced youth, matured, raised their own families, and kept going. Every day and every life lesson seemingly compounding in their minds. Their eyes and spirit glowing with experience and knowledge. The elders know because they have done. They have been through so much more than we have, and the gap continues to persist until they are no longer on Earth. The best wisdom comes from those who have come before us. Seek them out and learn.

In qualifying where the best wisdom comes from, it does not need to only be the “elders.” Anyone older than us has undoubtedly seen more from life than we have. No matter the age gap, they offer unique and different perspectives than those that are native to our individual lives. Wisdom comes from those who have done before and who have done more. Wisdom is found by listening more than we speak. Wisdom is found by asking the right questions to cause the stories to flow from those who we are learning from. Wisdom is unlocked through the sharing of knowledge and conversation. Wisdom can come from almost anywhere, we just need to be open to listen.

The power of life is we do not need to do it alone. Others are placed in our lives to share experiences with and to provide guidance. Wisdom via the prior experiences of others is instrumental for how we can individually grow as people.

If we want to form our own company and our grandfather was a career entrepreneur, we have countless years of experience we can tap into.

If we want relationship advice on how we can continue to create a strong relationship with our partner, we can look to our parents to learn from all the mistakes and successes they had in their own relationships.

There are countless avenues and doors for us to open when we are looking to gather wisdom. Time periods may have changed, and technology may have rapidly evolved, but core fundamental lessons based on past experience stand the test of time. Wisdom evolves through time. We are much better off when we collect and encourage the teachings of others compared to navigating life alone. Find wisdom. Embrace wisdom. Share your own wisdom. The cycle of knowledge and experiences flow just like the circle of life.
