Relationships

The world operates on relationships and the connection of others. Humans need connection and they find connection through the companionship of others. We thrive when we are surrounded by people who support and uplift us but also push us to improve. We can have relationships with our parents, siblings, coworkers, classmates, and whoever else. Relationships with others can come from anywhere, and we can go anywhere with relationships.

Relationships are a leap of faith. In the beginning of every relationship, there is a period where two people do not know each other. One person took a chance to connect with the other at the start. Whether it be a random message on social media, saying hello at the gym, or a mutual friend connection, every relationship starts from the unknown before moving into the known. Since it is a leap of faith, sometimes not all relationships work. Sometimes the other person is not looking for a connection. Sometimes as you get to know each other the differences are too vast to overcome. Not every relationship will, or needs, to work out. All that matters is you continue trying to connect with others, even if that just means cultivating the relationships you already have.

Relationships show love and compassion. The definition of “relationship” has the phrase “the state of being connected.” With any personal connection between two people there is some level of shared interest. From merely working on a project to starting a family together, the spectrum of connection is large. All within this spectrum of connection is the ability and desire to show compassion for the other person. Human nature takes over and you are more likely to help and love someone who you have a connection with. Relationships give us the opportunity to show our love through connection, no matter how small the action. This connection makes us feel human.

Relationships guide us through life. There is always someone who has done more, knows more, and has a different perspective than we do. Relationships help us to learn and evolve and teach us new ways to live life. Relationships give us opportunities not otherwise possible if we were operating alone. The world is oftentimes “who we know,” not “what we know.” This difference is fueled by connection with others. Relationships show us the way.

Relationships make us feel whole. Without relationships we can get lost in the game of life. We use relationships to help us endure, grow, love, and trek through our lives. Find relationships with others. Care about relationships with others. Keep relationships with others. That is the human experience.
